John Munro
Cast (Iguana Man)My name is John Munro, and I was born on February 15, 1969, in Gary, Indiana. In 1972, my grandmother moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, and lived along the Peace River. She would feed hot dogs to an alligator she called “Alice,” and from that point on, I became fascinated with alligators, which eventually sparked my passion for reptiles as a whole.
In my early twenties, I worked for a reptile breeder who was also involved in the import/export of reptiles. This experience taught me a great deal about reptiles and introduced me to some fascinating people. In my thirties, I became licensed by the state of Florida as an alligator agent, trapping and handling nuisance alligators. While I enjoyed learning how to handle them safely, I soon realized there were more nuisance people than nuisance alligators, so I moved on after a few years.
I eventually found my way to the Shell Factory Nature Park, where I trained alligators—a skill I taught myself. Alligators are incredibly intelligent, and working with them was an amazing experience.
Though I’ve spent most of my life working as an electrician, my true passion remains with alligators, and I hope to return to working with them in the future. I’m married to my beautiful wife of 30 years, and we have a daughter, a son, a grandson, and another grandbaby on the way. We currently live in Cape Coral, Florida, with our two dogs and a small group of reptiles.
